Charles W. Anderson '59
1994 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to Carroll
Carroll is a very special place for Charlie Anderson '59. It is a place where he grew
academically and personally – and it was where he met his future wife, Carole (Niehoff)
Anderson '61. Charlie was a business administration and psychology major. As a student,
he was a varsity letter winner, member of the track and basketball teams, and part
of the Beta Pi Epsilon fraternity.
Professionally, Anderson went on to become president and chief executive officer for
Douglas Dynamics, Inc. in Milwaukee; and is currently president and owner of Universal
Welding and Engineering, a Waukesha-based metal plate fabricating manufacturer of
durable, heavy duty equipment.
He served on the Carroll Board of Trustees for twelve years from 1991-2003 and is
an honorary lifetime trustee for his above and beyond commitment to the campus. In
addition to his board tenure, Anderson volunteered as the college’s acting vice president
for business and finance during a transition in administration, and was chairman of
the trustee advisory committee formed to assist in the daily operation of the college.
His leadership and commitment to his alma mater has been and continues to be tremendous.
In addition to his donations of time, Charley and his wife Carole have also continued
to be financially generous to Carroll. They have a scholarship fund in their name
providing critical scholarship aid to the future generation of Pioneers. Charley currently
serves on the President’s Advisory Council, and with Carole, regularly attend campus
events. Together, they live in Brookfield, Wis.
