Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Direct Admission

All first-time, first-year and transfer applicants selecting nursing as their first or second choice program will be be reviewed for direct admission. Students accepted for direct admission to the BSN program will begin nursing coursework in their first year at Carroll University. Students can enter the nursing program through either Direct Admission or Competitive Admission.

First-time, First-year Applicants:

Direct Admission

First-time, first-year applicants within 10 years of high school graduation matriculate directly from high school into the nursing major with successful completion of the following:

1. One year of high school algebra II, biology and chemistry (grade C- or better)
2. A high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, or a high school GPA of 2.75 or higher with an ACT score of 21 or above
3. Applicants with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 to 2.99 who apply as test optional and earned a C- or better in one year of algebra II, biology and chemistry may be eligible for direct admission pending submission of a statement that addresses:
   • Why nursing?
   • How have you prepared for the academic rigor of a nursing program?
4. Applicants who speak English as a Second Language are required to take the TOEFL and achieve a minimum score of 79 unless satisfactory SAT/ACT scores are available
5. First-time, first-year applicants more than 10 years out of high school will be considered with submission of a personal statement explaining their interest and preparation for the program
6. Students must submit Technical Standards for Admission to and Progression in the Nursing Program upon acceptance to the program

In some instances, applicant files are referred to a Selection Committee for review and action. That body may grant admission provided certain conditions are met or may require the student to satisfy specified criteria. Admission and progression standards are subject to change based on regulatory, licensing and/or certification needs. Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) licensure is required prior to enrollment in the Nursing Fundamentals course sophomore year, effective fall 2024.

Competitive Admission

First-time, first-year students who enroll at Carroll, not having been admitted to the program through direct admission, including pre-nursing and change of major applicants, may apply to the nursing major upon completion of the college classes and prerequisites outlined in the Competitive Admission criteria in the Carroll University Academic Catalog.

Transfer Applicants

Transfer applicants will be reviewed for direct admission based on the criteria outlined for Competitive Admission in the Carroll University Academic Catalog. Transfer applicants who are not yet eligible for admission to the nursing program at the time of transfer may apply to the nursing major as Carroll students upon satisfaction of those criteria.
