Honoring Coach Masonholder

Image of Merle Masonholder

We’re mourning the loss of a beloved member of the Pioneer football family. Coach Merle Masonholder passed away earlier this year. Coach Mase, as he was known by his players, led the Pioneers from 1982 until 2000. The winningest coach in program history, with 83 wins, he has a well-deserved spot in the Athletic Hall of Fame.

Of course, coaching football was about much more than wins and losses to Coach Mase, who saw in the camaraderie and competition of athletics a chance to develop and inspire young men. His leadership and humanity touched many here during his tenure as coach and also as athletic director.

Now, we’d like to memorialize Coach Masonholder by naming a football office in Van Male after him. Our goal is to have 100 former athletes and friends of Pioneer football contribute $150 each to help establish an office in his honor. The funds raised will help Pioneer football build upon Coach Mase’s winning legacy. Won’t you help us honor Coach Mase?

You can donate online, easily and securely, at carrollu.edu/give by selecting "Masonholder Memorial" as your gift designation.
