Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall
The people have spoken. Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall has won a People’s Choice award from the U.S. Green Building Council Wisconsin. Votes were cast on Facebook and during the USGBC Wisconsin Transformation Awards Reception on June 6. The project bested other nominees such as Fiserv Forum, Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons, and IKEA Oak Creek.
This is the second honor the building has received from the council. Hastad won an Award of Excellence in the “Innovative Design, New Construction” category of the USGBC West North Central Region Leadership Awards earlier this month. The west north central region includes Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri Gateway, Nebraska Flatwater, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Hastad Hall was the first campus building to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified status in 2018. The certification is a popular worldwide rating system that embodies achievement in sustainability.
The Hastad honors are part of a trend. In May, the restoration of Rankin Hall earned Carroll the George Gunn Award for Excellence in Architectural Preservation and Historic Restoration from the City of Waukesha Landmarks Commission.
Carroll also was honored by the commission in 2018, when Ganfield Gymnasium renovation was singled out for the award. Named after a longtime member of the commission, the Gunn award is typically given to individual(s) who are working toward or have completed a “top-to-bottom” restoration of a historic building.
