Major: Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Minor: Spanish

What made you choose this major?

I knew I wanted to do something that involved helping others but also enjoyed the artistic side of photography and graphic design. I discovered that sonography allowed me to learn about normal anatomy and physiology of the human body as well as the pathophysiology of diseases and gives us the ability to non-invasively visualize these findings.

How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?

Through the 2+2 program I was able to get a great understanding of general anatomy and function of the body at Carroll and then continue to further this knowledge through the hospital program. The hospital programs include a variety of rotations so my classmates and I were able to see a large variety of uncommon pathologies.

What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?

Carroll’s class sizes allow for the students and professors to get on a first name basis and provide a comfortable environment that allows for questions and fosters learning. Through my hospital program, our class sizes ranged from four to eight students. This was great for more interactive teaching and also allowed professors to customize lectures to our specific learning styles.

What’s one of the most unique experiences you’ve had relating to the coursework for your major?

I really enjoyed my CCE to Spain. I took three courses during my time in Spain but learned an incredible amount outside my courses as well. It was great to further my knowledge of the Spanish language while also meeting locals and learning about the culture.

If you were recommending your major to a prospective student, what would you tell them?

To prospective students to the 2+2 program I would recommend not rushing through your courses. With the strict curriculum that needs to be completed before the hospital program it can be easy to miss out outside opportunities. I took an extra year before entering the hospital program and finished my minor as well as went on a CCE, which I felt was very beneficial.

Why did you choose to attend Carroll University?

I enjoy the atmosphere of Carroll University and felt that it has prepared me well for my future career.
