What is your teaching style?

Preparing students for professional practice requires a collaborative effort between the student and instructor. My approach is a student-centered classroom that encourages participation and learning, as opposed to rote memorization. Students should be active learners in an environment where they communicate, ask questions, and work together to find solutions.

Why do you do what you do?

I like teaching nursing students! I was interested in nursing education early in my career and being a nursing faculty is dually rewarding. I get to work closely with students and still help care for patients in the clinical setting. It is exciting to work alongside future nurses who will positively impact the profession and lives around them.

How do you make learning engaging?

To keep students engaged, I implement a variety of activities including case studies, videos, and discussions, that are often based on real-life scenarios and my own experiences. I want the classroom to be a place for successes, mistakes, questions, and teamwork.

What should students know about you?

I care about my students and have high expectations for them. I ask questions and give feedback because I want them to think critically and be successful. I am approachable and want to help, just ask.
