Karen Bertucci and Torrie Boduch

Karen Novak Bertucci graduated from Carroll with a B.S. in Psychology in 1984. After college, she worked in the health insurance industry for more than a dozen years. She left the workforce to be a full-time mom for her twin daughters and spent time as a self-employed piano teacher.

Now that Karen's daughters have gone off to college, she needed to return to the work force full-time. Looking for guidance on the process, she looked to her alma mater.

"Not sure how to begin after being out of the office for more than 19 years, I consulted the Carroll University website and contacted Torrie Boduch, director of career services. For the past four months she has met with me in person and via phone, always making convenient appointments for my schedule. She effectively guided our conversations to quickly learn about my experiences, concerns, needs, interests and abilities. I left every session feeling knowledgeable and encouraged. She answered all my questions, advised me on issues relevant to my search, and provided excellent perspective and guidance," Karen shared.

Carroll's Career Services team offers a variety of resources and services to alumni free of charge. From perfecting a resume and cover letter to preparing through mock interviews, career explorations, connections to employers and more—they do all they can to help answer questions and continue to guide Pioneers on their way.

"Throughout this difficult process, I always felt Torrie was my personal coach," Karen stated. "When I contacted her with urgent questions regarding an upcoming phone interview, she readily made time to provide answers that directly influenced my success in the interview."

At the end of her work with Torrie, Karen landed a position with United Healthcare that she feels is the best possible fit for her. Congratulations, Karen!
