Carroll names executive director of Brewers Community Foundation as 2018 commencement speaker

Cecelia Gore, executive director of Brewers Community Foundation, will provide the keynote address at Carroll University’s Commencement on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She will also be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, which recognizes service to society in the areas of healthcare, humanitarianism, philanthropy and politics.

“Service is our theme this year, and Carroll University is thrilled to welcome Cecelia Gore as our Commencement keynote speaker. She is known throughout Greater Milwaukee as an active community leader and change agent with a passion for excellence and impact,” said Dr. Cindy Gnadinger, president of Carroll University. “We’re also looking forward to recognizing her outstanding achievements with the presentation of an honorary degree.”

As executive director of Brewers Community Foundation, the charitable arm of Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club (MLB), Gore has successfully positioned the organization to be philanthropic leaders in Greater Milwaukee and Major League Baseball. Efforts to carry out the mission of the organization have generated in excess of $25 million in support of nonprofit organizations. For more than 30 years, Gore has focused on engagement and leveraging of resources that improve the quality of life for children and families in our community.

In addition to her professional experience, Gore serves on a number of boards, including the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Froedtert Hospital, Sojourner Family Peace Center, Milwaukee Film, Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation, CG Schmidt and Alverno College. They are all nonprofits with the exception of CG Schmidt.

“I am honored to serve as the 2018 Commencement Speaker for Carroll University,” said Gore. “Carroll’s long tradition of providing quality higher education, along with instilling values centered on service, assure that our global society is populated with talent that will contribute mightily to the greater good.”

An expected 828 students will receive diplomas at Carroll University’s Commencement ceremony, including 637 expected to earn bachelor’s degrees, 120 expected to earn master’s degrees and 72 expected to earn Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees. They will be joined by thousands of parents and guests at the traditional outdoor ceremony marked by bagpipers and carillon music which will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the lawn in front of Main Hall on East Avenue.
