WAUKESHA, WIS.— Four Carroll University nursing students, all juniors, have received summer internships at hospitals in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The students and their summer employers are:
• Laura Johnson, from Brooten, Minn., who was one of just 12 interns chosen from 200 applicants to work at Saint Cloud Hospital, Saint Cloud, Minn., from June 3-Aug. 23. She will work with orthopedic patients in both pre-op and post-op care, and will observe surgeries. Johnson believes her resume was enhanced by an evidence-based research project she participated in at Carroll and by her participation in a nursing students working trip to Guatemala in May.
• Ben Keigley, from Green Bay, Wis., and Allie Baer, from Germantown, Wis., who were chosen for 10-week internships at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. The program offers students an opportunity to meet other nursing students, staff and patients from diverse cultures. Keigley will work at Rochester Methodist Hospital, part of the Mayo Clinic, in a unit specializing in colon and rectal surgery. Baer will work with gastroenterology/hepatology patients, specializing in the diseases and conditions of the digestive tract and liver.
• Mackenzie Bauhs, from McFarland, Wis., who will work for eight weeks at Agrace in Madison, a nonprofit, community based health care agency. She will specialize in inpatient hospice and palliative care.
