WAUKESHA, WIS.— On Friday, March 15, 2013, two Carroll University student ensembles will perform songs about the “Night.” The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. It is free and open to the public.
New director Pete Lange is growing the Jazz Ensemble, which performs music traditionally enjoyed in dance venues and nightclubs.
Led by Lawrence Dale Harper, professor of music, the Wind Symphony will perform a reverent piece, “The Sheltering Sky,” by young American composer John Mackey. The principal work of the program is “Night,” based on Elie Wiesel’s book of the same name. This 22-minute symphony depicts the darkness, hopelessness and trauma of life in a concentration camp during WWII.
