WAUKESHA, WIS.—Three graduates of Carroll University will display their art in the new Main Hall Gallery, 120 N. East Ave., Waukesha, from Sept. 12-Oct. 7, 2012. “Drawn from Life: Three Art Alumni” features paintings by Andy Fletcher ’00, paintings by Frank Juarez ’97, and sculpture by David Powell ’68. A reception will be part of Homecoming activities on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10-11 a.m. All visits are free and open to the public.
Frank Juarez is a gallery owner, art educator, advocate and community leader living and teaching in Sheboygan, Wis. He organizes local and regional art exhibitions and community art events, facilitates presentations, and supports artists through professional development workshops and networking opportunities. Juarez is the art department chair at Sheboygan North High School. He is actively involved in local, regional and state arts organization such as the Wisconsin Art Education Association, Milwaukee Artist Resource Network and Arts Wisconsin. He owns EFFJAY PROJEKTS Gallery.
Andy Fletcher lives on the Mississippi River in Stoddard, Wis. He creates mainly landscapes in oil paint. Fletcher earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and has taught drawing since 2001 at UW-Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Carroll and Winona State University, although he recently quit teaching to pursue painting full time. He tours the national fine art fair circuit in the summer.
David Powell, a resident of Delafield, Wis., returned to Carroll in 1970 after serving in Vietnam to complete his art education certification. He also has a master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University. Powell taught in the School District of Waukesha and the School District of Shorewood, retiring from Shorewood High School in 2007. His sculpture is primarily in wood and found objects, reflecting his love of history and fascination with small local museums and religious reliquaries. Powell is a member and past president of Milwaukee Area Teachers of Art.
