On November 3-4, 2017, three Carroll University students sang in the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions at UW-Stevens Point. Quinn Balz ’18 advanced to both the semi-final and final rounds of the auditions, ultimately winning first place in the category for “Upper College Music Theater Women.”

Balz, from Stratford, Wis. is pursuing a double major in music and educational studies with a minor in theatre at Carroll University. When asked about future plans, she shared, “After graduation I plan to continue performing either professionally or in community shows. Most importantly, I would like to have the opportunity to pass along my knowledge to others through teaching musical theater and possibly opening my own studio.”

Her voice instructor, Dr. Thomas Weis has helped four Carroll University students advance to the NATS semi-finals in the past. The voice area is comprised of three adjunct faculty members including Weis as well as Jillian Bruss and Saira Frank.

The NATS is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world with nearly 7,000 members in the United States, Canada and nearly 30 other countries.
